The word Zen is nowadays often misused. This is probably due to the fact that the true meaning of Zen is misunderstood.

Zen is the art of understanding our own minds. It is an art of learning how to befriend our minds, and ourselves. Zen philosophy aims to teach us to tolerate and accept ourselves as we are. Once we have learned to accept ourselves we can learn to work with our life experiences in a similar way that a sculptor works with clay.

Zen is a way of being with ourselves and others. The word Zen is a Japanese word, its origin however is Chinese and is pronounced as Ch’an. Roughly translated Zen means meditation, yet it’s true meaning reaches far beyond that. It is the art of relating to the world.

Zen
has  its  roots within  Buddhist  practice  yet its
Ch`an Xin (meditative mind)practice and application is neutral and can be applied to any spiritual, personal or religious practice or to none at all. Zen teaches us how to live life more fully, how to live life in the present moment away from negative habitual mental responses.

Zen philosophy is practical, direct and applicable to any of life’s situations. It might be useful for those who wish to establish a positive relationship with themselves through the art of mindfulness meditation. This kind of practice is best suited for those who already feel at relative ease with themselves wishing  to find deeper meaning in life.
